Getting To Know My Ghost

I'm getting to know my ghost;
He visits me at home,
He reads me books and laughs a lot at the stories I tell him and I
Believe everything he says
About my progress toward my death,
And he gives me five names: how convenient! I'd already guessed.
I'm getting to know my ghost
My one real-life spirit host
He eats biscuits and bread and he fills my bed with crumbs to lie on and he
Sleeps in my father's coats
Rubs cigarettes through my clothes
And he thinks he can tell my future: how I envy him
Sometimes, he looks a lot like I
Wish I could look sometimes
He makes me want to die
And then I whisper myself goodbye.
I'm getting to know my ghost
He's got his hands around my throat
He's got his fingernails all over me and under me and he's
Like no-one that I've ever met
So vulgar and articulate
And he sits on my shoulder and he pushes me over
Sometimes, he looks a lot like I
Wish I could look sometimes
He makes me want to die
And then I whisper myself goodbye.
I've got this feeling
This premonition
Call it the prophet in my blood
It tells me
The door is opening
It will accept you only once.
Sometimes, he looks a lot like I
Wish I could look sometimes
He makes me want to die
And then he holds me up again
I never thought he was with me then
I never thought he was with me
I never thought he was with me
It all goes 'round in circles it goes on…
